"A born writer, especially a born story-teller. Dr. Sutherland, who is distinguished in medicine, is an amateur in the sense that he only writes when he has nothing better to do. But when he does, it could hardly be done better." G.K. Chesterton.
To date, Exterminating Poverty was only available as an e-Book. No longer!
Exterminating Poverty is about an ignominious episode in British history when, one-hundred years ago, eugenic breeding was implemented in London. The backers of the project aimed to ensure that “British racial stocks” were not populated by “undesirables” and, in this way, they hoped to improve the calibre of Britons.
While the story is true, it is not widely known. To a great extent the truth has been suppressed; the hagiographers of those involved in the project have distorted the narrative, rather than face the ugly truth of the people they were writing about.
Exterminating Poverty is the result of years of meticulous research of source documents held in the British, Wellcome and Westminster Archdiocese libraries, as well as Dr Sutherland’s personal papers. While it is academically sound (with 700 citations), don’t expect a dry, heavy-going history. The book was written with the aim of providing an enjoyable read for the general reader. The feedback we have received to date suggests that this aim has been achieved.
