Merry Christmas!

To the friends and supporters of hallidaysutherland.com – Merry Christmas!

One-hundred years ago, Halliday, Muriel, Jane, John and Peter Sutherland spent their Christmas with the Damoclean sword of the Stopes v. Sutherland case hanging over their heads, though the children were probably too young to be told of or understand the implications of losing it.

Dr Sutherland had won the High Court hearing in February but lost in the Court of Appeal in July. The case was not to be resolved until the decision of the Law Lords in November 1924, so there was still a considerable way to go, with gnawing worries about funding the case. It was little surprise that the case took such a toll on both Sutherland and Stopes.

Today, the true account of Dr Sutherland’s fight against eugenics continues to spread, away the “distortion-by-omission” version promulgated by the disciples of Stopes but not, unfortunately, the recalcitrant British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Highlights of 2023 were the favourable review of Exterminating Poverty in the Ampleforth Journal as well as interviews with Jeremy Nell on his Jerm Warfare podcast and The World and Everything in it.

As a small gift to you, here is a reading and dramatisation of William James, Coachman:

Wishing you, your families and loved ones a very Merry Christmas.
